Afterschool programs set a NH state record for the most sites playing CATCH Kids Club games simultaneously.

Imagine thousands of kids at afterschool programs all across New Hampshire all playing the same physical activity games in unison.

That’s just what CATCH Kids Club Day achieved…

Afterschool sites from all across New Hampshire participated in the CATCH Kids Club Day record-setting event on November 7th from 3:00pm – 5:00pm. Participating kids exercised to celebrate healthy kids in the granite state!

Here are some of the highlights:

  • 31 sites participated
  • 1263 total kids – all playing CATCH games simultaneously!
  • Total of 26 hours of play time between the 31 sites
  • 88 kids along with 96 adults attended the Monarchs Game and carried the flag out on the ice during the National Anthem

Since 2008, funded by the “Growing Up Healthy” Grant from the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation, the Foundation for Healthy Communities has spread the afterschool fitness and nutrition curriculum, CATCH Kids Club, to 108 afterschool sites across the state.  CATCH Kids Club Day was designed to celebrate that achievement!

What makes this program highly respected is not only the evidence-based curriculum, but the special focus on enjoyable, inclusive, non-elimination games.

Games like See ya later, Alligator and Dragon Tails are some of kids’ favorites in the curriculum that includes over 300 games.

Everybody plays, and everybody has fun! “That’s the best part about this program – even kids who don’t like to exercise or are always chosen last have fun with CATCH games,” says Laura Hesse Moran, NH CATCH Program Manager. “With many games, when you’re tagged out, all you have to do is a re-entry activity like jumping jacks to get right back in the fun!”

The Foundation for Healthy Communities has seen the lives of well over 5,000 kids transformed through the implementation of the CATCH Kids Club obesity prevention curriculum.
